Knowing paint consumption and ways to prepare the surface that can reduce the amount of coating, you can optimize repair costs.

It would seem, to calculate the required paint volume is easy. For this, the total painted area (m²) is multiplied by the number of coating layers (there must be no less than two), after which it is divided by the result on the Painting consumption (m² / l) specified on the bank. The resulting digit in liters and means the desired amount of paint. But not everything is so simple.
However, the consumption data that is specified on the package is suitable only for a thin layer of composition applied at an average temperature and humidity on an even and smooth base with an average absorbency.

The actual consumption of colorful composition depends on several factors:
- The porosity of the base (i.e., absorbed surface properties);
- surface textures, its relief;
- tool used (brush, roller or sprayer);
- Colors or degrees of color difference base.

Strongly absorbing surfaces quickly pull water (or solvent) from paint. From what paint consumption increases. In addition, too fast water treatment (or solvent) violates the process of forming a colorful film provided by the technology. As a result, the colorful coating becomes less durable and not sufficiently resistant to external influences. Highly absorbing refers to the bases from plaster, sheets of plasterboard, cement, as well as plastered and covered surfaces. In addition, walls made of clay and silicate bricks have a high absorbent ability, from wood (especially soft breeds - pines, aspen), its derivatives (DVP, chipboard, etc.), and any types of wallpaper in painting.

Reduce paint consumption is possible. To do this, apply to the base ground. Due to the specific ratio of components, it effectively fills the pores, reduces and aligns the absorbability of the treated surface. After that, the amount of paint needed to create a decorative layer will decrease, and the process of forming a colorful film will go fine. Instead of soil, you can use a slightly diluted paint, of course, if it allows the technology described in the manufacturer's instructions on the colorful composition.
When staining textured bases (wallpaper, decorative plasters and other textured coatings), there would be a high qualification of the wizard, the material will leave somewhat more. Therefore, it is worth adding 20-40% to the calculated amount of paint.

Old spotted or very dark foundations are difficult to block paint light shades. To achieve a qualitative result, 3-4 layers may be required. It is possible to reduce the volume of expensive coating, if it is used for pre-priming the surface to use a light melted soil. The ideal result can be achieved if you smoke the primer paint in the color of the decorative coating.

It is equally important to take into account the method of applying paint. Working with the paintopult is very effective and gives the minimum consumption of colorful composition. For roller and brush it will be more. Therefore, counting the desired amount of paint, be prepared for the fact that the actual volume will be higher than the package indicated on the package by 5-15%.
Finally, we recall that usually the colorful composition is applied in two layers. However, in some cases, the optimal effect is achieved by a large number of layers. For example, when painting a floor in order to increase the wear resistance of the coating in corridors, children's, in kitchens and stairs, it is recommended to apply 3 layers. Or when decorating a tree with applied lesing impregnations, when the shade becomes more intense with each following layer.
