To prevent premature failure of expensive plumbing, it is necessary to release water used in everyday life from the listed inclusions. For now, this problem can be solved using coarse filters, which are put at the entrance of the water supply network in an apartment or house.

Coarse filters are divided into mesh and cartridges (cartridges).

Mesh filters

Despite its modest view, the filter of the model 170 (Bugatti) will successfully transfer the rigid operating conditions (operating temperature at a pressure of 16ATM- to + 150C) to Russian consumers, this products are offered by Herz companies (Austria), Bugatti, RBM, Tiemme (Italy), Honeywell Braukmann, OVENTROP (Germany) and a number of others.

Structurally, such a filter is a metal housing (as a rule, from brass), which (water intubosity) is placed a mesh cylinder (usually from stainless steel). Mesh cells are different sizes - from 100 to 800 mkm. Holes less than 100 mkm does not see the naked eye. Naturally, the smaller the cells, the cleaner it turns out water.

Mesh filters have their advantages and disadvantages. Undoubted pluses design - resistance to high temperature (up to + 150c) and high pressure (up to 16 atm), large throughput and low operation costs. Such devices can safely be put in high-altitude houses. The filter must be cleaned periodically, it is enough to wash the grid under the jet of water. Even more comfortable self-cleaning mesh filters equipped with a crane for draining "caught" dirt into the sewer. To control the pressure, they are often equipped with a manometer, such as RBM model 989 (cost, from $ 20).

However, such filters are not capable of lowering the turbidity and color of water, since the mattings are usually fewer cells. The most significant minus of the mesh structures - gradual clogging by particles, the size of which is commensurate with the diameter of the cells. The result is sometimes blocked so that they are almost impossible to free them. The number of open pores is reduced, the filter begins to pass water barely. To combat this "ailment" manufacturers of self-cleaning filters recommend to establish them according to the scheme that allows periodic flushing of the mesh with reverse current of water. This makes it possible to clean it from stuck particles.

A diagram that allows washing the filter with a feed current of the water (for self-cleaning filters that are not equipped with such a system) in order to wash the filter by countercurrent water, it is necessary (see the scheme):

After washing the filter, it is required to return the system to the initial state by manipulating the cranes in the reverse order.

There are also combined filter cranes. In this case, a ball valve and a mesh filter are combined in a common case. The price of such a "hybrid" is about 200 rubles. (Filter is not self-cleaning). In the construction markets of Moscow there are quite workable devices at a price of 60-70 rubles. But professionals usually do not trust products of unknown firms.

Mesh filters may include a ball valve, check valve and a pressure reducer, and still equipped with a mechanism that allows washing with countercurrent water. Such is, for example, the FK74C model from Honeywell Braukmann. For automatic flushing, Honeywell Braukmann delivers the component system: Mesh self-cleaning HS10S filter and the drive Z11S-A (set value - $ 450). The drive is controlled by a microcomputer that runs the washing according to the program entered.

Cartridge filters

This filter is a flask (as a rule, transparent), which inserts the cartridge (cartridge). The flasks are produced three sizes: 5, 10 and 20 duch long. The model of the Honeywell Braukmann family on the Russian market is two types of filter enclosures: Slimline (thin) and Bigblue (thick). The upwards of the flask are made by special wall mounting holes (on special brackets). The cartridge can be performed in the form of a plastic frame, which is wound up polypropylene fiber (Honeywell technology), or manufactured from a monolithic polymer (by type HYTREXLD model Osmonics, USA). Filtering cartridges are available for both cold and hot water.

The advantages of this type of filters include a sufficiently high degree of cleaning. The minimum value of pores is 0.5 μm, but usually the apartment uses more "coarse" (5 or 10 μm). As a result, water is purified not only from large mechanical particles, but also from suspension and muta. Transparent flask allows you to visually assess the degree of contamination of the cartridge. The disadvantages of these filters are low operating temperature indicators (usually no more than 60s) and pressure (no more than 7thm), as well as the need to replace cartridges. Depending on the quality of water, this should be done once in 3-6 months.

There are two types of filtering cartridges: washable (Washable) and disposable (throw-away). Moreover, it should be borne in mind that the washable cartridge is not eternal and after several flushing cycles requires replacement due to the blockage of pores and, therefore, reducing productivity. For rigid operating conditions, stainless steel cartridge filters are provided (for example, the NV-SG model of the Russian company "New Water"). Self-cleaning cartridge filters, equipped with a microprocessor, which monitors the degree of contamination and is automatically washed as a cartridge. In this case, the cartridge resource increases several times. However, such road filters and relatively cumbersome, they are used mainly in the complex cottage water treatment system.

Cartridge filters produce Honeywell Braukmann, Oventrop (Germany), Cuno, Atlas (Italy), Keystone, TGI, FlowMatik, US Filter (USA). It should be noted here that American products tend to have conical threads, so special adapters are required to connect them. Usually they can be purchased for a fee in fir firms. Note that the cartridges of one manufacturer may not approach the filters of the other. So it is necessary to use the cartridges of those brands that the manufacturer recommends. Although it is sometimes possible to dock the parts by means of adapters again.
