Mesh filters have their advantages and disadvantages. Undoubted pluses design - resistance to high temperature (up to + 150c) and high pressure (up to 16 atm), large throughput and low operation costs. Such devices can safely be put in high-altitude houses. The filter must be cleaned periodically, it is enough to wash the grid under the jet of water. Even more comfortable self-cleaning mesh filters equipped with a crane for draining "caught" dirt into the sewer. To control the pressure, they are often equipped with a manometer, such as RBM model 989 (cost, from $ 20).

However, such filters are not capable of lowering the turbidity and color of water, since the mattings are usually fewer cells. The most significant minus of the mesh structures - gradual clogging by particles, the size of which is commensurate with the diameter of the cells. The result is sometimes blocked so that they are almost impossible to free them. The number of open pores is reduced, the filter begins to pass water barely. To combat this "ailment" manufacturers of self-cleaning filters recommend to establish them according to the scheme that allows periodic flushing of the mesh with reverse current of water. This makes it possible to clean it from stuck particles.

Mesh filters may include a ball valve, check valve and a pressure reducer, and still equipped with a mechanism that allows washing with countercurrent water. The disadvantages of these filters are low operating temperature indicators (usually no more than 60s) and pressure (no more than 7thm), as well as the need to replace cartridges. Depending on the quality of water, this should be done once in 3-6 months.

There are two types of filtering cartridges: washable (Washable) and disposable (throw-away). Moreover, it should be borne in mind that the washable cartridge is not eternal and after several flushing cycles requires replacement due to the blockage of pores and, therefore, reducing productivity. For rigid operating conditions, stainless steel cartridge filters are provided (for example, the NV-SG model of the Russian company "New Water"). Self-cleaning cartridge filters, equipped with a microprocessor, which monitors the degree of contamination and is automatically washed as a cartridge. In this case, the cartridge resource increases several times. However, such road filters and relatively cumbersome, they are used mainly in the complex cottage water treatment system.

Cartridge filters produce Honeywell Braukmann, Oventrop (Germany), Cuno, Atlas (Italy), Keystone, TGI, FlowMatik, US Filter (USA). It should be noted here that American products tend to have conical threads, so special adapters are required to connect them. Usually they can be purchased for a fee in fir firms. Note that the cartridges of one manufacturer may not approach the filters of the other. So it is necessary to use the cartridges of those brands that the manufacturer recommends.
