Tile for apron - the usual solution. In addition, it opens up great opportunities in terms of design - you can choose any texture, color and shape. But this is not the only material of all possible. We collected examples of projects where the tile risked and replaced it not to the usual tempered glass or plastic - and it looks fresh and interesting.
1 strict kitchen with painted walled wall
This kitchen interior is made in a mixed style. Here you can guess the classics (stucco on the ceiling), traditional Scandinavian aesthetics, minimalism, Vabi Sabi with its imperfection and naturalness. Wall-apron, painted with mineral paint, just reminds of Vabi Sabi. It looks like a textured, with a non-ideal coating, visible smears - but these are the features of the paint and ideas of the authors of the project.

Wallpaper on the apron, not closed with glass or anything - it is definitely a brave reception. But what a stylish! Here, the canvas with a print in the form of leaves on a gray-blue background look very gently and "collect" the whole interior.
If you like to cook, actively frit something on the stove, then this option is hardly suitable for you. Or you will have to close the wallpaper with a protective panel, but you must admit that it would be difficult to achieve such an effect.
3 Spacious kitchen with apron from plaster
With this kitchen is not so easy. Non-standard material for apron was chosen in order to update the old coating from the textured tile under the stone (there is a photo "to" in the gallery). The stucco was applied from above, closing the morally outdated tile. Such a choice, and in white, of course, not very practical. But it is determined by the needs of a particular family - if possible frequent cleaning does not scare, why not?

4 Green sets with a spectacular stone apron
In this kitchen, an old apron from the tile (can also be seen in the gallery) replaced the stone - the wrong shape, the factory, rough - and from that very unusual. Care for such a coating will surely be difficult - if you want to repeat this experience, it is worth considering the impracticality of the natural stone in the cooking zone. It will be harder to launder from drops of fat and dust than smooth materials.

5 Kitchen with an apron of paint and metal protection
In this corner kitchen used several materials. On one side (where the washing) - the wall is painted and no additionally protected. From the side of the slab wall above the working surface is decorated with metal sheets.
If the paint is washing, it will quite cope with the load from the spray of detergent and droplets of water. But the metal sheets at all of their stability are not so practical - they are difficult to launder to the ideal, the divorces remain, with time, the metal can fill or oxide. However, in the interior of this kitchen, it seems that the most imperfection of the metal is used as an accent and does not interfere at all.
6 Kitchen, where apron is a window
In the introduction, we said that we would not offer projects where the alternative to the tile is glass. But it's still not the case! Not familiar tempered glass, which is attached to the wall. Such aprons - windows are a very effective technique that is implemented in private homes (in urban construction, they will almost won't meet such elongated windows, but to change the facade, making a window or expanding it, of course, it is impossible).
The solution looks very impressive. And practicality, in general, high. Wash the glass on the window is not more difficult than the tile.

In this kitchen, the wall area, where usually lay out the tile or glue the glass, painted colored paint. It turned out a classy accent, which, if desired, is easy to change.
