The main function of the shadow is zoning. In the twilight, you can easily create islands of light, which organize the interior, focus on the main thing. Imagine theatrical idea when the parter floods uniformly bright light. The viewer will lose concentration, will be distracted by neighbors. The same in the interior: Instead of illuminating the entire center of one central chandelier, we highlight the relief on the wall, turn on the lamp on the table at the sofa and sconce for reading. This approach allows you to manage attention, while the light divides the room into parts, and the shadow creates a background.
2 Create an atmosphere
The shadow helps to create a drama where light turns shapes and textures in everydayness. Glossy objects, metal, glass, mirror surfaces look especially well in the darkened interiors. All investors of public interiors know that cheap textures look more expensive, and defects turn into an exclusive. In addition to the fact that the shadow allows you to save, it is easy to create a chamber and a cozy atmosphere, so many restaurants will even reset the windows tightly. Bright light provokes an excitement in the body, this is the signal of our nervous system: now a day, rather run to work and do not forget the list of cases today. It is for this reason that the fast food restaurants include bright light even in the evening. And the shadow reports exactly the opposite: calm down, the time of transition to sleep will come soon. Shadow slows down and relaxes, encouraging the client to spend longer at the table.
In the context of residential interior, this principle is especially relevant for the bedroom. In small apartments, the bedroom often combines the features of the office, living room, dressing room and even the kitchen. In one-bedroom apartments, it is now fashionable to "pack" bed in a niche and leave the rest of the space open. In this case, the shadow helps not only allocate various zones, but also to avoid insomnia. While one of the spouses is engaged in cooking or work at a computer, the other can quietly prepare for sleep, and not suffer from bright overall lighting.
3 Correct the shape of the room
In addition to the overall impression, the shadow can be used to solve specific tasks, such as decoration and correction of the shape of the room. For example, in the wellhead rooms with a small perimeter and a high ceiling, it makes sense to hang a chandelier with a lampshade, guide the light down, and lower it on the chain.
Thus, the upper part remains darkened, the height is visually reduced. In rooms with irregular angles, the evening zoning helps to lead to the shadow of distressed areas.
4 decorating
As for decoration, on the way of light, it is necessary to create an obstacle that throws openwork shadows. It can be lace curtains or a complex lampshade. For the maximum effect, it is important that the difference between transparent and opaque material is maximum, and even better, when the emptiness is instead of a transparent material - slot or holes. In the case of lamps, this is usually metallic or plastic lampshade, cutting a laser. It forms a subtle game of shadows on nearby surfaces and transforms the evening interior. If you decide to take advantage of this reception, do not forget that the best such game looks at monophonic matte planes. That is, if you put such a lamp next to the falling curtains in the flower, the result may be crumpled. The optimal option is walls and ceilings, painted in one color, which provides a smooth background for the shadow decor.
Shadow is intrigue, shortness and mystery, comfort and relaxed atmosphere. Proper work with the shadow can be made by an inexpensive interior, and if the materials are high-quality, then the properly applied shadow will emphasize the glare at noble surfaces and decorate them even more.

The client strives for light, and the designer is to the balance of light and shadow. So differently look at one picturesque work of the non-professional and artist: an unprepared viewer is considering the depicted objects, and the artist assesses their immersion on Wednesday. In this sense, the shadow plays the role of the background, without which the illuminated areas merge and blind. In residential spaces, the role of the shadows often underestimate, neglecting acceptors that are actively using restaurants and hotels.
